I say pack um up and move um out. Nearsports has grown too large to have to depend on some jack leg service. Nearsports needs reliability if it is to continue with this service.

"If" it is going to be fixed and fixed good, I say we wait it out another 3 weeks. If it is going to be fixed and we are going to still have problems every other week or two I say pack it up.
To be honest though...I can't stand this forum, since we have been using the other one.

I agree with Weatherman..... I look forward to checking in on NEARSports every day but it is discouraging to not know which one is working ...or to sit and grow old waiting to make a post. As Pixtaker said..."You need reliability from your service" so as to NOT damage NEARSports reputation as the RELIABLE SOURCE for sporting news! just my thoughts.....hope you get it worked out

The other board is much nicer than this one, but this one works... If you guys read the support forums, you'll see the support people don't care if the other is ever fixed! There are forums a lot better than the one now,but there not free! look at the support Grim ISN'T getting! forum.forumer.com/showthread.php?t=56032&page=4

I say host your own on the nearsports.com domain.
I feel like a noob. I had to re-register. But I would strong recommend getting a version of invision or vbulletin and host it on your own place.
Tell people to get over their post count being erased and realize it's for the best. If they know their exact post count you can always enter it manually, though I don't think anyone here really cares about who has how many posts.

To be honest, I do not know how to create, install or maintain a forum that would be on our own server. That's why we have always used a web-based forum.

I agree. Why couldn't you host your own domain ? Post count doesn't mean nothing to me. I know whatever I type is most important anyway. I just want things to be good again, I am soo bored at work. Anyway, I hope eevrything works out. Keep us posted. I say host your own on the nearsports.com domain. I feel like a noob. I had to re-register. I didn't either, but now mine are looking and running great. Just takes a little bit of research and time to get them running, then some commitment to make it better, which we know you have.

Thats what you need to do,get with McCarroll21 and make your own! Even when Limez gets your other forum fix,its a matter of time before it needs maintenance again.
Just like this time,he'll take his time fixing it agian, could be months again. I know being this is your living you can't afford that.
I say you just move back here until you and McCarroll,or who ever helps you can get a host forum up of your own. This WILL happen again with forum for free, because LIMEZ DOEN'T CARE!

What do you use to host your site? Our site is hosted by a local Internet Provider. I use FTP to upload files to the server.

Well my vote goes to...waiting it out. If it will be fixed, then everybody will come back sooner or later. Maybe everything will be peachy in a couple of weeks.

What do you use to host your site? Our site is hosted by a local Internet Provider. I use FTP to upload files to the server. You may need to contact them to see if you have MySQL and PHP. To host forums you will need a MySQL database to store all of your information. If your host provides access to that, it wouldn't take long to get a default forum running on your site (after deciding which forums you want to use, etc.). With the proper information, I could install everything from here if you're using FTP. I use FTP to upload things to my host, as well. Running the forums would be self explanatory, especially since you have been doing that forever. Getting forums running on your domain would make your Alexa rank shoot through the roof, too.

I see the forums are back up and running for now. I know starting over is hard sometimes, but you did it once already and the site grew even more. As far as is it worth it to start over again ask your self this,is it worth starting over for the PEACE OF MIND,you never have to depend on someone else again? The site seems to be working now,and it might not ever go down like this every again, but is it worth the chance? Stay with the new forum until you get your own up and running. Once you learn how to make and host your own forums,I'd switch even if it meant starting over. I would start working on the project now,but I would wait until summer when the forums are slow, with people enjoying the summer weather to make the final switch, but i'd get the new forum up and running now,and you and your mods could beta test the new forum, then release it to the rest of us for football season. It's your choice, but if it were me,I'd make sure I had a forum i could depend on by the start of football season next fall!

Josh, I couldn't care less about Alexa. That's a gimic for people to use their browser. Screw em. I know this, but you had posted something before regarding alexa rank. Just trying to help. It wouldn't take long after I read up on the installation instructions on whatever you chose to go with. You could go with invision and it would be much the same as what you're used to on FFF. I've only worked in vBulletin, but I'm sure installing them is a lot alike. Keeping the hits on your own site is the most important thing. Also, not having to worry about the uptime of your website would be huge, especially since it is your full-time job. I agree with what Cup has said. You may want to do it, but choose to wait until the forums are a little slower. You have started over at a fresh start before and haven't been slowed one bit. If you had time to announce the change, you wouldn't have to worry about members because they would all come, just like they did before when we made the switch from here to FFF.
